Cluj: Subway financing will also be done through green bonds

Published on

The mayor of Cluj-Napoca, Emil Boc, announced, on Tuesday, in a press conference, that the financing of the Cluj metro project will also be done through green bonds, in which he signed an agreement with the Minister of Transport, Sorin Grindeanu.

„Yesterday, together with the Minister of Transport, Sorin Grindeanu, I signed an additional act to the metro financing contract for the financing of this objective also from green bonds, in addition to the financing from Romania’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). This new source of financing, from green bonds, covers both the expenses present as well as future expenses. In other words, as of today, we still have a certain source of funding for the metro. I want to publicly thank Ministers Grindeanu and Bolos to thank Mr. Ciuca and Mr. Ciolacu, because they were all part of the solutions, not the problems,” Emil Boc declared.

So far, the Government has paid 288 million euros for the metro. The City Hall also allocated 38,000 euros.

According to mayor Emil Boc, 56 million euros were also paid for expropriations.

According to the project, Cluj Metro Line 1 will have a length of 21.3 km, with 19 underground stations and an above-ground depot.
