CNS Cartel Alfa: Net wages would grow if certain social taxes are transferred to employers

Published on

The government should transfer to employers a part of the social taxes paid now by employees, which would lead to the increase of all net salaries, Bogdan Hossu, the president of the Cartel Alfa Trade Union Confederation, said, according to Agerpres.

Several dozen trade unionists, members of the CNS Cartel Alfa, protested, Friday morning, in front of the Cotroceni presidential Palace, the main grievances being related to the decrease in the standard of living together with the increase in inflation.

„From my point of view and that of the confederation, the ideal would have been for the salary increase to be achieved through tax transfer, i.e. the freezing of the gross value and the transfer of a quota of social taxes from the employee to the employer, which would not have deeply affected the employers, but from the point of view of the workers, throughout the vertical of the pay system, there would be a substantial increase in the net value. Because all the workers go home with the net salary, not the gross salary,” Hossu stressed.

„It seems that the decision-makers want an increase in the minimum wage to 3,000 RON, but an increase to 3,000 RON only means an increase, from 1.4 million workers who are currently on the minimum wage, probably to almost 3 million workers who will reach the minimum wage, i.e. they will swallow the contracts that are in the range of 2,550 – 3,000 RON, which is not beneficial, because it clearly demotivates the workers to be efficient. If everyone receives the minimum wage, why should I be qualified, why should I assume responsibilities, why should I risk my family life for work interests,” the union leader asked, rhetorically.

He also said that the lack of expertise and experience in practice makes the decision-makers make populist decisions and not decisions that would solve the fundamental problems.

„We will wait another two weeks and, depending on the construction of the social dialogue, which was not much throughout this year, we will see how we move forward. Let’s not forget that the elements we are asking for were the subject of debates in the Tripartite Council for Social Dialogue, in the social dialogue committees of the various ministries, which has not happened until now. If nothing happens, we will continue and change the forms of protest, because it means that there is an inability to make a decision on the part of the government and the only solution is to change the Government”.
