Areas in 12 counties are under a Code Orange warning for severe atmospheric instability on Friday, while other regions in Transylvania, Muntenia and Moldova will be under a Code Yellow for bad weather during the same time period, according to the National Meteorological Administration (ANM).
According to the specialist forecast, the Code Orange will be in effect from 12:00 PM to 11:00 PM in counties from Oltenia, northern Moldova and locally in the Southern and Eastern Carpathians. The atmospheric instability will be severe, manifesting through torrential downpours, strong gales (wind gusts of 70-90 km/h), and hail of medium and possibly large size.
Also, in short time intervals (up to three hours) or cumulatively, rainfall amounts will reach 40-50 liters per square metre and, in isolated areas, over 60 l/sqm.
The counties under the Code Orange warning are: Suceava, Botosani, part of Neamt, part of Bacau, part of Prahova, part of Dambovita, part of Arges, Valcea, Olt, Dolj, Gorj and Mehedinti.
At the same time, a Code Yellow warning for unstable weather will also be in effect Friday between 12:00 PM and 11:00 PM across half of the country. In Banat, the western, southern, and eastern parts of Transylvania, the western and northern parts of Muntenia and central Moldova, there will be periods of torrential downpours, lightning, short-term wind gusts, storms (with gusts generally between 50-70 km/h) and occasional hail.
Rainfall in short periods will range from 15-25 litres per square metre, and in some areas may exceed 30-40 l/sqm.
