Over one thousand hectares of vegetation have been destroyed by fires in Constanta County since the beginning of June, with one particularly devastating blaze engulfing more than 400 hectares of vineyards and cereal crops in Adamclisi, warns the ‘Dobrogea’ County Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (ISU).
According to the source, this period has been described as „the inferno of June and early July – a season of fire.”
‘June and the first part of July have been the most challenging period of this year. In this short time, 200 fires have been recorded, affecting over 1,000 hectares (…). The response effort has been immense: 380 fire engines and more than 1,300 firefighters have been mobilised to face the wall of fire,’ reads a ISU ‘Dobrogea’ of Constanta County release issued Wednesday.
One of the most difficult interventions occurred on 25 June in Adamclisi, where a devastating fire consumed over 400 hectares of vegetation, vineyards, and cereal crops, threatening homes and lives. The firefighters’ swift and sustained response prevented a tragedy.
The following day, in Topraisar, another 60 hectares of dry vegetation were affected by fire. Strong winds pushed the flames dangerously close to residential areas, but firefighters managed to stop the blaze in time.
On 1 July, in Mircea Voda, fire spread across 30 hectares of stubble fields, destroyed 1,000 straw bales, and damaged an animal shelter.
Since the beginning of the year, firefighters have responded to 270 fires, which have destroyed over 1,500 hectares of dry vegetation, pastures, stubble fields and agricultural crops.
