The President of the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR), Marian Enache, met, on Thursday, with Jose Antonio Hernandez Perez-Solorzano, the ambassador of Spain in Bucharest, in which context they discussed, among other things, the revitalization of relations between the CCR and similar Spanish institution, according to a press release from the CCR sent to Agerpres.

During an exchange of ideas regarding the cooperation between the two states on multiple levels – economic, cultural and social, Marian Enache noted that language study centers were opened in several universities in Spain the culture of the Romanian people, and in Romania the Spanish language and elements of civilization are promoted at high school and university level.

For his part, Ambassador Antonio Hernandez Perez-Solorzano expressed his desire for a closer collaboration between the two states and an exchange of experience of the constitutional courts in Romania and Spain, considering their similar structure.

„Also, he specified that, as a sign of gratitude to the Romanian community, but also to mark the 10th anniversary of the conclusion of the Strategic Partnership between the two states, an agreement on dual citizenship with Spain is being worked on”, the release reads.

The President of the Constitutional Court of Romania evoked the fact that, in the process of drafting the Romanian Constitution of 1991, the delegation of the Constituent Assembly that he led carried out a documentation internship in Spain on constitutional law issues, with the aim of capitalizing on some concepts and institutions from the Spanish Constitution, an illustrative example in this sense being the introduction of the Institution of the People’s Ombudsman (Defensor del Pueblo) into the fundamental law of Romania.

„Considering that since the drafting of the 1991 Constitution there has been a fruitful exchange of ideas and expertise between Romanian specialists and the judges of the Constitutional Court in Spain, Mr. President Enache proposed the revitalization of relations between the two authorities of constitutional justice. In this sense, Mr. President indicated that he will propose sending an invitation for a bilateral meeting with the judges of the Constitutional Court in Spain, in the first part of 2024”, mentions the CCR release.

The meeting was also attended by Benke Károly, first assistant magistrate, Cristina Titirisca, assistant magistrate, and Madalina Verman, advisor in the Department of External Relations, Press Relations and Protocol, from the Romanian Constitutional Jurisdiction Authority, as well as Ioana Brumar, officer protocol within the Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain in Bucharest.
