Construction works down 4.1pct in first ten months

The volume of construction works, as a gross series, decreased overall by 4.1% in the first ten months of the year compared to the same period last year, due to a decline in maintenance and current repairs (-9.2%) and new construction works (-4.1%), according to data the National Institute of Statistics (INS) published on Wednesday.

Between January 1 and October 31, 2024, capital repairs advanced 7.4%.

By type of construction, there were declines in residential buildings (-23.1%) and non-residential buildings (-6.8%), while engineering constructions gained 5.9%.

As an adjusted series for working days and seasonality, the volume of construction works decreased by 3.3%. Maintenance and current repairs and new construction works dropped 6.2% and 4.3%, respectively. In contrast, capital repairs rose 7.8%.

By construction type, decreases were registered in residential buildings (-22.7%) and non-residential buildings (-4.7%), while engineering constructions increased 6.2%.

Compared to the previous month, in October 2024, the volume of construction works declined 3.3% as a gross series, with a notable decrease in new construction works (-9.5%). Capital repairs and maintenance and current repairs went up 15.6% and 6.9%, respectively.

By construction type, a decrease was recorded in engineering constructions (-9.8%). Increases were seen in residential buildings (16.3%) and non-residential buildings (1.7%).

The volume of construction works, as an adjusted series for working days and seasonality, decreased 8.2%, with decreases recorded in new construction works (-13.7%) and maintenance and current repairs (-0.4%). Capital repairs increased 1.5%.

By construction type, the volume of works decreased in engineering constructions (-13.6%) and non-residential buildings (-2.8%), while residential buildings went up 7.6%.

In October 2024, compared to the same month last year, the volume of construction works, as a gross series, decreased overall by 13.3%. In terms of structural elements, decreases were recorded in new construction works (-17.2%) and maintenance and current repairs (-13.6%). In contrast, capital repairs grew 13.7%.

By construction type, decreases were recorded in non-residential buildings (-21.9%), residential buildings (-19.0%), and engineering constructions (-7.1%).

As an adjusted series for working days and seasonality, the volume of construction works decreased overall by 11.6%. In terms of structural elements, decreases occurred in new construction works (-16.7%) and current repairs (-13.6%). Capital repairs increased 12.4%.

By construction type, the volume of works decreased in non-residential buildings (-22.4%), residential buildings (-20.1%), and engineering constructions (-8.2%).
