Contract staff and public servants in Parliament request double salary increases compared to Government’s proposal

Published on

The unions of civil servants and contract staff in the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies request salary increases of 20% and reject the proposal of the Executive to increase salaries by only 10%.

„We say no to the salary increase by 10%, in two installments. On behalf of the employees in the Romanian Parliament, we express our disagreement with the proposal of the Executive to increase salaries by only 10% in two installments. Public opinion and, unfortunately, the political factor have inoculated the false idea that our role in the functioning of the Romanian state is minor, which entails consequences, especially at the salary level. If we were to fulfill our obligations in installments and at a minimum level, such as these salary increase proposals, it means that we should calibrate our activity according to the same pattern. We mention another aspect that seems to be ignored: the political factor should not be based on the saying ‘many people are waiting at the door, if you want, leave”, it is stated in the press release sent to AGERPRES on Wednesday.

The four unions in Parliament request the Government „to reevaluate its proposal to increase the salaries of the employees of the Romanian Parliament by a percentage of 20%, in two installments, respectively 15% starting in June 2024 and 5% in September 2024, compared to the level granted for the month of January 2024”.
