The Romanian Court of Accounts has sent to prime minister Marcel Ciolacu and the members of the Government a summary of the main recommendations formulated by the institution during the latest audit missions carried out at ministries and subordinate entities.
„I have decided, together with my colleagues in the plenary, to support prime minister Marcel Ciolacu and his team of ministers, by sending them a summary of the main recommendations formulated by the Court of Accounts in the latest audit missions carried out at ministries and subordinate entities. These provide an objective radiography of the portfolios and can be a solid basis for substantiating the future measures of the Executive. We are in the second exercise of transparency and support for good governance in Romania, after the recommendations sent to the Government in the summer of 2023. We aim to consolidate our role as a trusted partner for all factors involved in Romania’s development through this approach,” said Mihai Busuioc, president of the Court of Accounts of Romania, in a press release sent to AGERPRES on Wednesday.
Through the Institutional Development Strategy 2023-2028, adopted by the Plenary of the Court of Accounts, the Supreme Audit Institution of Romania has assumed an active role in the process of good governance, which also implies a closer connection with its main stakeholders, such as the Parliament, the Government, non-governmental organizations, etc.
In its relationship with the Executive, the Court has established a procedure, based on good practices in the field, which consists of informing members of the Government, upon taking up their mandate, regarding the main recommendations resulting from the audit missions carried out at the entities they are subordinate to.
„In accordance with international auditing standards (INTOSAI-P12 – Value and Benefits of Supreme Audit Institutions, Guide 9040 – Good Practices on Transparency of SAIs), through their daily activity, supreme audit institutions contribute to strengthening integrity, transparency, accountability and public trust (INTOSAI-P20 – Principles of Transparency and Accountability), enabling oversight, responsibility and governance in the public sector. Through this approach, the Court of Accounts of Romania assumes membership in the practice of the international audit community and contributes to strengthening reforms at the level of the Romanian state,” the press release states.
