Cristian Diaconescu filed his independent candidacy for the office of president of Romania with the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) on Friday.
The Central Electoral Bureau for the election of Romania’s president in 2024 announced that Cristian Diaconescu’s independent candidacy has been registered, along with the electoral sign that will be used in this year’s elections.
Earlier, George-Nicolae Simion – the Alliance for Romanians’ Union (AUR), Elena-Valerica Lasconi – the Save Romania Union (USR), Calin Georgescu (independent candidate), Nicolae-Ionel Ciuca – the National Liberal Party (PNL), Kelemen Hunor – the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR), Mircea-Dan Geoana (independent candidate) and Diana Iovanovici-Sosoaca had registered their candidacies with the Central Electoral Bureau.
At the same time, BEC rejected Miron Cozma’s independent candidacy.
The deadline for the candidates to remain final is October 10, 2024.
