Culture Minister Raluca Turcan announced on Monday evening the allocation of 140 million euro for a large-scale investment project in culture, „Cultural Foundations,” with the total estimated net cost of the project being 280 million euro.

„The funding for the largest investment project in culture was signed today. Alongside Marcel Bolos, the Minister of Finance, we are bringing 140 million euro to ‘Cultural Foundations’ for the preservation of historical monuments and the construction of buildings with a cultural purpose. The total estimated net cost of the project is 280 million euro, of which 140 million euro represents Romania’s contribution to the project,” Turcan wrote on her Facebook page.

According to the minister, „Cultural Foundations” aims to preserve heritage and improve access to culture through 14 investment objectives: the Romanian National Opera in Iasi and the Romanian National Opera in Bucharest, the Grigore Antipa National Museum of Natural History in Bucharest, the Constantin Brancusi National Museum in Targu-Jiu, the Batthyaneum Library in Alba Iulia, the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Bucharest, the Romanian Athenaeum, Queen Maria’s Villa in Mamaia, the National Museum of the Romanian Peasant, the Cucuteni archaeological site of the National Museum Complex „Moldova” in Iasi, the Tescani section of the George Enescu National Museum, the villa of architect Paul Gottereau in Bucharest, the National Museum of Transylvanian History in Cluj-Napoca, and the Administration of the National Cultural Fund in Bucharest.

The project, part of a financial effort of nearly 900 million euro net allocated for the rehabilitation and enhancement of the most important historical monument buildings and performance halls under the Ministry of Culture’s administration, is implemented by the Project Management Unit, a special structure in managing European funded investments, with over 17 years of experience in this regard, the quoted source also mentioned.
