The minister of culture, Raluca Turcan, said that, these days, Sibiu is „the symbolic capital of the Saxons everywhere,” as the city hosts the international meeting of over 10,000 ethnic Germans settled abroad, who returned home.
„Sibiu is, these days, the symbolic capital of Saxons everywhere. Here, in Sibiu, under the motto ‘Everywhere at home,’ the Transylvanian Saxons who have gone abroad strengthen their ties with their homeland, with their friends who remained in the country, and bring the younger generation with them, to the land of their parents and grandparents. It was a pleasure to be part of this great event, which takes place under the patronage of the president of Romania, Klaus Iohannis. At the second edition, the ‘International Meeting of the Saxons’ is a celebration occasion for Sibiu and for Transylvania,” wrote Raluca Turcan, on Saturday evening, on his Facebook page.
While attending the cultural events occasioned by the international meeting of the Saxons, Raluca Turcan emphasised the fact that the Ministry of Culture supports the preservation and restoration of the heritage of Transylvania, including the fortified German churches.
„As minister of culture, I want to preserve forever what the Saxons have built here, in Transylvania. Therefore, I reaffirm the support of the Ministry of Culture for the preservation and restoration of the cultural heritage of Sibiu and Transylvania, including by protecting the churches belonging to the Saxon communities,” added Raluca Turcan.
