The Danube Delta won the Grand Prize at the „Destination of the Year 2025” Gala, one of the most important competitions for tourist destinations in Romania, which is based on both the public vote expressed online and that of a jury formed by experts in the field, as well as a nationally representative poll.
According to a press release issued on Wednesday by the Tulcea Destination Marketing Organization (DMO), the award reaffirms the tourism potential of the Danube Delta and of the Tulcea municipality and confirms the efforts made by authorities and private companies to attract visitors to the area, with DMO Tulcea registering Danube Delta as a tourist destination in the competition.
„Two years ago, the foundation of the Tulcea DMO was laid, which aims to promote our city, the main gateway to the Danube Delta, in a professional, coordinated and integrated manner. (…) It is our desire and objective to draw attention to a new local tourism proposal, the involvement of the local administration in the development of tourism, the strengthening of the public-private partnership and the awareness that together we are stronger, that the unified voice of the local community grows and that we all bring value and attractiveness to our places,” stated the mayor of Tulcea, Stefan Ilie, according to the press release.
Over 70 areas from Romania and the Republic of Moldova entered the „Destination of the Year 2025” competition in six categories, Tulcea County appearing in two of them, „Enchanted Realms” and „Fairytale Villages.” In the last mentioned category, the locality of Mila 23 won the second prize, after Rimetea, Alba County, and before the village of Breb, Maramures County.
In time, the Danube Delta has also won awards from organizations that promote sustainable tourism, among which we mention the „Golden Apple” award granted in 2009 by the International Federation of Journalists and Writers in the field of Tourism.
