The Vrancea Court ruled on Wednesday that former Finance Minister Darius Vâlcov will be released on parole. The decision is final.
The court upheld the appeal filed by Darius Vâlcov, who was being held at the Focșani Penitentiary, against the ruling issued on April 9, 2026, by the Focșani District Court, which had denied his request for parole.
The judges warned the former minister that his parole could be revoked if, after his release, he commits a new crime. In that case, he would have to serve the remainder of his sentence.
Darius Vâlcov, former Minister of Finance and former mayor of Slatina, received a final conviction in May 2023 in the “Paintings Case.” He was sentenced at that time to six years in prison for influence peddling and money laundering.
