DefMin meets Rheinmetall company representatives

National Defence Minister Angel Tilvar, while at the Munich Security Conference, had a meeting with representatives of the German company Rheinmetall AG. An important point of discussion was the project for building a powder plant in Romania through a partnership between Romarm and Rheinmetall, the National Defence Ministry (MApN) announced on Sunday.

„Cooperation with companies like Rheinmetall, a major player in the global defense technology market, can be a success story for Romania. All of Romania’s Army modernisation programmes with state-of-the-art military technology are based on leveraging all possible opportunities for industrial collaboration with national economic agencies. The transfer of high technology and the integration of a larger portion of the production of contracted equipment into national industrial capacities significantly contributes to strengthening Romania’s security and resilience, in this complex geopolitical context in our region,” said Tilvar, according to a press release sent to AGERPRES.

An important point of discussion was the project for building a powder factory in Romania through a partnership between Romarm and Rheinmetall.

This project benefits from a EUR 47 million grant provided by the European Commission through the Act in Support of Ammunition Production (ASAP) programme.

The investment will increase ammunition production capacity, supporting both national security and the strengthening of the European defence industry, the Defence Ministry shows.

„The success of this initiative will demonstrate our commitment to increasing domestic production and strengthening European industrial capacities. Romania has the opportunity to become an important player in ensuring ammunition supply at the European level,” Minister Tilvar said.

Representatives of both parties appreciated the constructive dialogue and expressed their desire to expand collaboration through new strategic defence projects, the press release further reads.
