National Defence Minister Angel Tilvar met on Tuesday with a delegation of airplane maker Avioane Craiova SA, with whom he discussed the contract for the refurbishment and upgrading of 10 IAR-99 Standard aircraft, the Defence Ministry informs, according to Agerpres.

The delegation was led by the company’s general director Victor Muntean, and talks focused on the industrial cooperation between the Ministry and Avioane Craiova SA, particularly under the ongoing contract for the refurbishment of the 10 IAR-99 Standard planes to the IAR-99 SM configuration.

Upon completion, these aircraft will be used mainly as school and advanced pilot training planes for the transition to flying the F-16 Fighting Falcons of the Romanian Air Force and will constitute a close air support and intervention capability against low-speed aerial targets, the Minister said.
