On Thursday, the Minister of Defence, Angel Tilvar, had a meeting with Ambassador James C. O’Brien from the US State Department and with the US Ambassador to Bucharest, Kathleen Kavalec, write Agerpres.
According to a press release of the Ministry of Defence, the three high officials discussed topics that were mainly related to the Romanian-American bilateral cooperation, within the Romania-USA Strategic Partnership, as well as relevant aspects for the security situation in the Black Sea region, in the context of the war conducted by the Russian Federation against Ukraine. „The Romanian-American strategic partnership is stronger than ever.
Today, Romania is a reliable and valuable partner, it demonstrates ambition, political will, the ability to contribute to the implementation of future joint priorities, including by firmly assuming the role of security provider in the region,” stated Minister Angel Tîlvar. The Romanian official welcomed the adoption, on July 27, in the United States Senate, of the National Defence Authorization Act, which also includes the Black Sea Security Law, through an amendment introduced by Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Mitt Romney.
This aspect represents a reconfirmation of the commitment and constant support of the USA for regional stability, the Black Sea region being an area of strategic interest for NATO, a fact also confirmed in the declarations of the last allied summits in Madrid and Vilnius.
Tîlvar strongly condemned the indiscriminate attacks of the Russian Federation on the civil infrastructure for the export of Ukrainian grains, with an impact on global food security. He also highlighted Romania’s support for its Ukrainian partner.
The Romanian Minister of Defence reconfirmed Romania’s commitment to ensuring regional security and thanked the American partner for the persistent presence of the US armed forces in Romania and in the Black Sea region, the most important pillar of strengthening the allied deterrence and defence posture on the Eastern Flank.
