The contribution of the United States of America is vital for maintaining peace and security in the Black Sea region, stated, on Thursday, the Minister of National Defense, Angel Tilvar, in the context of the telephone conversation with his American counterpart, Lloyd J. Austin III.
According to a press release from the Ministry of National Defence (MApN), the discussions focused on the security situation generated by the Russian Federation’s war of aggression in Ukraine, the cooperation between Romania and the United States under the auspices of the Strategic Partnership, the state of the endowment programs and the modernization needs of the Romanian Army.
The Romanian minister emphasized Romania’s firm commitment to support Ukraine’s defensive efforts.
„Romania continues with solidarity the support efforts for Ukraine and for the support of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the face of the indiscriminate attacks launched by the Russian Federation on the population and critical infrastructure. Ukraine can rely on allied unity and cohesion,” said Angel Tilvar.
During the conversation, ways of strengthening and deepening the security and defense relations between Romania and the United States were discussed, in order to respond to the current challenges.
Secretary Austin expressed appreciation for the way in which Romania consolidated its position as a pillar of stability on NATO’s eastern flank and thanked for the support given to the American forces deployed in our country.
In turn, Minister Tilvar thanked for the significant contribution of the USA to ensuring the security of Romania and the Eastern Flank of NATO, emphasizing the strategic importance of the American presence in Romania.
„The contribution of the United States is vital for maintaining peace and security in the entire region,” declared the Romanian official.
During the discussion, the two officials also analyzed the status of the major endowment programs carried out by the Ministry of National Defense in collaboration with the American partner.
Finally, both sides reconfirmed their joint commitment to strengthening the deterrence and defense posture on the Eastern Flank of the North Atlantic Alliance.
