Deputy Petretchi: Ukrainian community to support public policies aimed at strengthening Romania’s role as EU and NATO country

Bucharest, April 4 /Agerpres/ – The 20 years anniversary since the accession to NATO and 75 years since the formation of the North Atlantic Alliance represents an excellent opportunity for reflection regarding the consolidation of Romania’s role in maintaining national and regional security and, at the same time, in deterring and combating conventional and hybrid threats, stated, the chairman of the Union of Ukrainians in Romania (UUR), deputy Nicolae-Miroslav Petretchi, said on Thursday.

„The Ukrainian community in Romania actively and constantly participated in Romania’s rapprochement to NATO, in creating the conditions for reaching the standards and fulfilling specific criteria for accession, as well as in assuming an active role as a NATO member country, in a region with permanent geopolitical convulsions. Also, the Ukrainian community in Romania will always support, without reservations, public policies aimed at strengthening Romania’s role as an EU and NATO member state, being equally not only a relevant contributor to the creation and application of these public policies, but also a direct beneficiary of theirs,” the deputy of national minorities pointed out.

According to him, today, Romania and Ukraine have the historic opportunity to build a stable partnership in the field of security, which will make Romania even safer and stronger, paving, at the same time, Ukraine’s road towards the Alliance.

The representative in Parliament of UUR highlighted that the role of the Ukrainian community in Romania in facilitating the Euro-Atlantic path of Kiev can be „extremely relevant” in the current geopolitical context. „The Ukrainian community in Romania represents a model of integration of an ethnic community in state life that can be replicated in European and Euro-Atlantic Ukraine and, at the same time, a model of its conduct regarding its participation in public policies on consolidating Romania’s role and position in the EU and NATO,” Petretchi said.
