DIICOT and Albania’s Prosecution Office sign cooperation agreement to fight organized crime and terrorism

Published on

Romania’s Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) and the Special Prosecution Office combatting Corruption and Organised Crime of Albania concluded a memorandum of direct judicial cooperation between the judicial authorities of the two countries, for a common and effective approach to the fight against organized crime and terrorism, according to Agerpres.

According to a DIICOT press release, the document was signed by interim head of the DIICOT Oana Daniela Patu and representative of the Albanian Prosecution Office Arben Kraja, in the attendance of Ambassador of the Republic of Albania to Romania Ilir Tepelena.

The DIICOT aims at international judicial cooperation in criminal matters with the partner judicial authority of Albania, with a predilection for combating terrorism, human trafficking, drug trafficking, smuggling committed in organized groups and other forms of organized crime, which manifests in both countries.

The agreement regarding the direct cooperation of the DIICOT with Albania’s Special Prosecution Office combatting Corruption and Organised Crime represents an additional tool used for the purpose of destructuring organized cross-border criminal groups, guaranteeing the constant exchange of data, operational information, as well as aspects related to the relevant legislation and jurisprudence in the areas of common interest.

The DIICOT mentioned that, due to the growing recognition of its activity among the relevant European authorities, this is the 8th cooperation agreement with judicial authorities from other states in the fight against organized crime and terrorism.
