EconMin Ivan to discuss defence industry at Question Time at Senate

Published on

The Senate Leaders’ Committee approved on Monday an invitation from the Save Romania Union (USR) floor to the Minister of Economy, Digital Transformation, Entrepreneurship and Tourism, Bogdan Ivan, to a Question Time on Wednesday, March 12.

USR is said to be asking for „explanations” from Ivan on the Romanian defence industry.

„Romanians need to know if the government is really doing something for the defence industry or is just mimicking the strategic interest. We are in NATO, but this does not mean that we can be dependent only on imports. We must be able to produce our own defence equipment and supply ammunition to our allies. The economy ministry must clearly explain what is happening with the defence factories and defence investments,” according to USR floor leader Stefan Palarie.

According to USR, the minister will be asked about the real situation of the production of drones, the powder factory and the 155 mm calibre ammunition, compatible with NATO standards; how the measures in the National Strategy for the Defence Industry 2024-2030 are implemented; the government’s solutions to secure the future of the 2 Mai Mangalia shipyard, after the withdrawal of the Damen holding; how the Government manages the critical situation at the Liberty Galati steel plant and other industrial units in danger.
