The Ministry of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism, as the relevant ministry, can initiate and carry out expropriation procedures for reasons of public utility exclusively for the purpose of building, modernising, expanding and reconversion projects of production and/or services for defense of strategic interest at the national level by economic operators from the national defence industry, provides an emergency ordinance approved on Thursday by the Government.

The Cabinet approved the emergency ordinance for the amendment and completion of Law no. 255/2010 on expropriation for reasons of public utility necessary to achieve some objectives of national, county and local interest, with subsequent amendments and additions in order to optimize the implementation process of construction projects, modernization, expansion and conversion of production capacities and/or defence services of strategic interest for national security.

At the same time, the Ministry of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism (MEAT) is added to the list of representatives of the expropriator, which is the Romanian state, through economic operators from the national defence industry that operate under its authority for the works provided for in the title of the normative act.
