EduMin David: We are developing mechanisms to combat pseudoscience

Published on

The minister of education and research, Daniel David, on Thursday stated that mechanisms will be developed to combat pseudoscience in pre-university and higher education.

„Even if I see that someone approaches or brings aspects of pseudoscience into the education component, the ministry does not have the mechanisms to control and block this. We will develop such mechanisms, and most probably we will introduce an annual assessment for all of us. In a way, we are all being evaluated every year, but such evaluation only targets our managerial skills, if we comply with all our managerial duties, according to the job description, while we need to also introduce a similar mechanism targeting the pseudoscience component. That is, if a teacher in the pre-university area or the university area promotes such things in interactions with pupils and students, we should have the necessary instrument to sanction him/her” explained Daniel David, in a live intervention on Facebook.

According to the minister, pseudoscience creates the context in which conspiracies and fake news appear. „Pseudoscience is what creates the context in which conspiracies, lies, fake news, things that put at risk the proper functioning of a society, the institutions that protect us (…) from the voice of the one who shouts the loudest or is the most aggressive,” David argued.
