The Romanian energy sector was analysed on Monday by Energy Minister Virgil Popescu, together with Bertrand Piccard, President of the Solar Impulse Foundation, UN Ambassador for the Environment and Special Advisor to the European Commission, write Agerpres.
„Today I had a working meeting with one of the great explorers of aviation, Bertrand Piccard, President of the Solar Impulse Foundation, UN Environment Ambassador and Special Advisor to the European Commission. He has made history by sailing non-stop around the world in a balloon and at the controls of the solar-powered Solar Impulse aircraft. His aim was to demonstrate how clean technologies can achieve the impossible, and he succeeded in setting two world records. Together we went through the analysis of the Romanian energy sector and had an excellent exchange of ideas on a more innovative approach to clean technologies that protect our environment and can also be very profitable. Our goal is to prioritise as many solutions as possible for Romania and to advance all necessary clean and efficient energy implementations,” Popescu wrote on his Facebook page.
He underlined that nuclear energy was one of the main topics of the discussion, presenting all the opportunities and tools at our disposal to achieve all our goals. „I conveyed that decarbonisation without nuclear energy is not possible,” Popescu wrote.
The meeting was also attended by Secretary of State with the of Energy Ministry Dan Dragan, and a delegation from the Swiss Embassy to Romania.
