Timber depots near the capital were selling wood without proper documents of origin and the total value of the damages, confiscations and fines imposed by commissioners of the National Forestry Guard amounts to 365,000 lei, Minister of the Environment, Waters and Forests Diana Buzoianu announced on Thursday on her social media page.
‘Three inspections, three criminal cases opened. A stone’s throw from Bucharest, timber depots were selling wood without proper documents of origin or, in the case of around 500 cubic metres, even without any documents at all, with fictitious volumes recorded in SUMAL. The value of the damages, confiscations and fines imposed? 365,000 lei. The criminal cases will follow their course through the courts. This is what it looks like when the Forestry Guard does not turn a blind eye. Congratulations to the National Forestry Guard. Congratulations to George Garbacea, the territorial guards and the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police,’ Buzoianu wrote.
According to the quoted source, the National Forestry Guard, through the coordination of the territorial forestry guards, announces the launch of a series of large-scale inspections that will take place in the coming period across the entire country.
The actions are aimed primarily at full compliance with the forestry regime and the firm combating of illegal logging. AGERPRES
