Designated prime minister Eugen Tomac says this is not the right time to hold early elections, given the national and global economic context, as well as the crises we are facing.

“I believe that the context we are in right now obliges us to be rational and responsible towards Romanian citizens and towards this country. Our economy is not going through its happiest period, the world is not going through its calmest moments, and I think that starting now to organise elections, to waste hundreds of millions of euros so that parties can demonstrate their political abilities, is a mistake,” Eugen Tomac said on Wednesday evening on B1 TV.

According to him, “our country needs a period in which we manage to overcome the deadlock we are in, to work harder and with seriousness to reduce the gaps that exist between us and other European states”.

He referred to the country’s economic situation, to the expectations of Romanians, as well as to the international context, which calls for greater responsibility.

Several political leaders have referred to the organisation of early elections, in order to break out of the political crisis generated by the PSD-AUR no-confidence motion.
