The European Union declared itself „dismayed” by the new executions in Iran of people arrested and sentenced to death during the demonstrations that continue in the Islamic republic, AFP reports, Agerpres reads.

The EU denounces „a new sign of the violent repression of the demonstrations” and „calls again on the Iranian authorities to immediately end the highly reprehensible practice of pronouncing and executing death sentences against demonstrators”, as well as „to cancel without delay the recent death sentences already pronounced in the context of the demonstrations”, the spokeswoman of the community block Nabila Massrali emphasized in a statement.

Two men were executed in Iran on Saturday after they were found guilty of killing a paramilitary during the protests that followed the death on September 16 of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Kurdish woman, after she was arrested by police for violating the dress code of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which specifically requires women to wear the veil in public.

„Mohammad Mahdi Karami and Seyed Mohammad Hosseini, the main perpetrators of the crime that led to the martyrdom of Ruhollah Ajamian, were hanged this morning,” Mizan Online reported, referring to a member of the Bassidji militia, linked to the Revolutionary Guards, the army Iran’s ideology.

The Court of First Instance sentenced the two men to death on December 4, the agency said.

Since the beginning of the protest movement, justice has sentenced 14 people to death in connection with the demonstrations, four of whom have already been executed, according to an AFP tally based on official information. Activists say dozens more face charges that carry the death penalty.
