Acting President Ilie Bolojan declared on Wednesday that the financing of parliamentary parties should be at a level that allows them to function under relatively normal conditions between elections, stating that if these amounts are used mostly to generate media promotions in a more or less transparent manner, the basic idea of financing political parties is being hijacked.
„Certainly, last year, parliamentary parties received significant amounts and this year the amounts are reduced by at least 25% compared to a normal year, not compared to the election year. Compared to the election year I think they are reduced by 60-70%, but I agree with what you say that the money allocated to political parties must be at a level that allows them to function under relatively normal conditions between elections, including through donations made by their members and supporters. (…) If these amounts are used mostly to generate promotions in the media in a more or less transparent way, I think the basic idea of financing political parties is hijacked,” Bolojan said on the „Friendly Fire” podcast.
He said that it would be good for party promotion to be done in a more transparent manner.
„The basic idea is to be able to function without getting into all kinds of financial complications with strange financiers to whom they would be indebted, on the one hand, and on the other hand to be able to really train their people, and the more transparent and honest the promotion part is done, especially during the election period, this issue should be, the better I think it would be,” Bolojan added.
