Florin Pogonaru: Romania’s Schengen area membership would lead to fluid intra-European trade

Romania’s Schengen area’s membership would lead to strengthening the internal market of the European Union, to fluid intra-European trade and to more efficient European value chains, Chairman of the Association of Romanian Business People (AOAR) Florin Pogonaru told a news conference on Thursday, Agerpres reports.

„Romania’s Schengen area’s membership would lead to strengthening the internal market of the European Union, to fluid intra-European trade and to more efficient European value chains. There has been talk of Romania as a regional logistic hub, of Constanta, Arad as possible centres for distribution logistics hubs. I don’t know if you know how many multinationals currently have coordination centres in Romania for consumer goods, and it would be logical that the movements from Romania in various directions towards the European market should be fluid. That is not currently happening. If we managed to become a hub, economic stability would ensue and there would be more jobs, while migration from this area would be reduced due to more stability and economic prosperity. When we say we deserve to be in the Schengen area, we say we deserve to be the core of economic stability,” Pogonaru said.

He added that the Romanian business community wants equal access to European trade flows.

The Coalition for the Development of Romania (CDR) organised on Thursday a news conference whose theme was Romania’s accession to the Schengen area and the beneficial impact it will generate on the development of the EU internal market, including by creating additional advantages for the economies of all member states.
