The minister of Foreign Affairs, Luminita Odobescu, reaffirmed on Tuesday at the Conference on Ukraine’s reconstruction in Berlin, Germany, Romania’s commitment to actively engage in the reconstruction process in Ukraine, stressing the need to maintain international solidarity through concrete actions to support the neighbouring country, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) said.

The head of the Romanian diplomacy recalled „the dynamic involvement of Romania and Romanian citizens in supporting Ukraine since the first day of the Russian Federation’s war of aggression”.

During the thematic session dedicated to Ukraine’s preparation for joining the European Union, Luminita Odobescu welcomed the reform efforts of the Ukrainian authorities, carried out under extremely difficult conditions, against the backdrop of the war of aggression unleashed by the Russian Federation.

The Foreign minister underlined Romania’s support, at all levels and in all European formats, for the formal opening of accession negotiations with Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, as a clear signal of long-term commitment to the societies of the two countries. She underlined the importance of sustainability of the reform implementation to transpose European norms and standards, reiterating Romania’s readiness to offer expertise based on its own accession experience.

The Romanian official highlighted the main milestones of bilateral cooperation with Ukraine in terms of increasing cross-border connectivity. At the same time, the Romanian minister stressed the need for a regional perspective of Ukraine’s reconstruction, through the development of projects to include the Republic of Moldova. In this regard, she highlighted the strategic importance of Ukraine’s interconnectivity with neighbouring European states for integration into the European single market.

On the sidelines of the Berlin conference, a Business Forum dedicated to the reconstruction of Ukraine was held, attended by Romanian companies interested in getting involved in this complex process, in particular in the energy and transport infrastructure.
