Romania reconfirms „its firm and unwavering support” for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, within its internationally recognized borders, stated, on Tuesday, the minister of Foreign Affairs, Bogdan Aurescu, in the national intervention at the UN Human Rights Council , held in Geneva, Agerpres informs.
„Romania’s decision to make a solid contribution to peace, security, development and human rights is stronger than ever. Human rights are universal, inalienable, indivisible and are interconnected, so there is no human dignity without human rights,” said Aurescu, according to the speech transmitted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Aurescu emphasized that „we must make tireless efforts to hold the Russian Federation accountable for the crimes in Ukraine and to compensate the large number of victims”.
„Romania appreciates the effort of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to document the cases of sexual violence against women and girls in the context of the armed conflict and other serious cases of violation of humanitarian law and the rights of prisoners of war,” the Romanian minister argued.
Aurescu stated that „Ukraine’s victory must be defined by Ukraine itself”.
„It is its legal and moral right. Instead, we must ensure multilateral support, to strengthen Ukraine’s resistance and endurance to the aggression of the Russian Federation. We must have a consistent international dialogue and coordinate on the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine, on the basis of an extensive plan and based on the reality on the ground,” the minister added.
