Foreign Minister Toiu, on official visit to Kyiv: We do not remain indifferent to suffering and barbarity

Published on

Romanian Foreign Affairs Minister Oana Toiu is paying an official visit to Kyiv, where she will hold meetings with senior Ukrainian officials. She is also scheduled to travel to Chernivtsi to meet with members of the Romanian ethnic community.

„This marks the first bilateral visit to Kyiv by a Romanian foreign minister since the start of Russia’s unjustified invasion in 2022. I am here to convey a strong message of solidarity with Ukraine. We cannot remain indifferent to suffering and barbarity — not only because it is right, but also because it is in our national interest to stop Russian aggression,” Toiu wrote Thursday on Facebook.

The visit began at the Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital in Kyiv, exactly one year after it was „deliberately and brutally bombed by Russian forces,” according to the Romanian minister.

„It was a shocking war crime that once again revealed the barbaric face of the Kremlin regime. As a mother, I cannot put into words the emotions stirred by these attacks. Seeing innocent children — some undergoing treatment for serious illnesses — targeted by Russian bombs only reinforced my belief that the Ukrainian fight is more than justified. I am glad to see the hospital rebuilt and operational, providing essential care to these children,” she added.

Toiu also visited the „School of Superheroes,” operated by of the National Cancer Institute, and expressed her deep admiration for the children’s determination to continue their education while undergoing demanding medical treatments.

„With the support of international partners, the First Lady Olena Zelenska’s foundation is working wholeheartedly to bring a glimmer of hope to these children’s lives. I expressed my full admiration for these ‘Superheroes’ who remind us never to give up. Today’s visits reminded me once again what Ukrainians are fighting for: to protect these vulnerable children, for their future — and ours. Romania will continue to stand with Ukraine, because their victories are also our victories,” Toiu concluded.
