The European General Court ruled in Romania’s favor in a lawsuit initiated by our country for overturning a decision of the European Commission by which financial corrections of over 18.717 million euros had been ordered for pig welfare benefits in the financial years 2017 – 2019 from the 2007 – 2013 National Rural Development Program, Agerpres informs.
According to a release from the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the Court annulled the challenged decision.
„The handed down ruling is the result of the very good cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The legal representation of the Romanian state in case T-33/21 was provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Government Agent for the Court of Justice of the European Union,” the release states.
The legal team was made up of government agent Emilia Gane, head of the EU Litigation Service Loredana Batagoi, and diplomat Oana-Catalina Ichim, while experts from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development provided the technical support for the preparation of Romania’s legal arguments.
The ruling of the EU Court is not final, and can be appealed with the Court of Justice of the European Union.
