The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) on Monday issued a message addressing the massive proliferation of hate speech and conspiracy theories online, as well as disinformation, disguised as potential solutions to various complex societal issues.
In this context, the MAE said that the Holocaust Victims Remembrance Day, on January 27, represents „a good occasion to reflect on the measures that need to be taken to combat the spread of these phenomena.”
The Romanian ministry emphasised that the adoption of the second National Strategy for the Prevention and Combatting of Antisemitism, Xenophobia, Radicalisation and Hate Speech for the period 2024-2027 „represents a significant effort and an important achievement that strengthens Romania’s role as a regional model of good practices in combating antisemitism and preserving the memory of the Holocaust.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that it will continue to support the implementation of projects under the National Strategy and remain engaged in actions targeting the fight against antisemitism, the preservation of Holocaust memory, the commemoration of victims, and the protection and support of survivors.
The MAE also welcomed the launch on January 17 by the United Nations of a new action plan aimed at improving the monitoring of antisemitic acts and the response to this phenomenon.
The ministry commits to continuing to contribute, through diplomatic mechanisms, to strengthening international legislative and institutional tools meant to promote intercultural dialogue, respect, and tolerance, and to combat extremist, antisemitic, xenophobic or discriminatory manifestations.
