Non-resident tourists accommodated in collective tourist accommodation units spent an average of 2,982.8 RON/person in the first nine months of the year, the main reason for their stay being business trips, according to data released by the National Institute of Statistics (INS), submitted to AGERPRES on Thursday.
In the third quarter of the year, non-resident tourists accommodated in collective tourist accommodation units spent an average of 2,811.5 RON/person.
During the period January 1 – November 30, 2024, the total number of non-resident tourists accommodated in collective tourist accommodation units was 1.683 million, their expenses totaling 5.019 billion RON (on average 2,982.8 RON/person).
Business trips were the main reason for the visit of 50.2% of non-resident tourists arriving in Romania, their expenses representing 57% of the total expenses.
Private trips were the second reason for the visit by 49.8% of non-resident tourists arriving in Romania during the mentioned period, their expenses representing 43% of total expenses.
The main means of transport used to arrive in Romania in the first nine months of 2024 was the plane, used by 77.7% of the total number of tourists, while 15.3% used their own cars, 5.3% used coaches and buses, 0.5% used river boats, 0.9% used other means of transport (rental cars, motorcycles, etc.) and 0.3% used trains.
In the third quarter of 2024, the total number of non-resident tourists accommodated in collective tourist accommodation units in Romania was 717,700, their expenses totaling 2.018 billion RON (2,811.5 RON/person on average).
Of the non-resident tourists arriving in Romania in the third quarter of the year, 42.9% traveled for business purposes, their expenses representing 54.8% of the total expenses. Of the total business expenses in the third quarter of 2024, the main share is represented by expenses for accommodation (50.5%), followed by spending in restaurants and bars (16.8%) and shopping (13.9%).
Of the non-resident tourists arriving in Romania in the third quarter of the year, 57.1% traveled for private purposes, their expenses representing 45.2% of total expenses. Of the total expenses for private purposes, the main share is represented by expenses for accommodation (43.2%), followed by shopping (17.8%) and spending in restaurants and bars (17.4%).
The main means of transport used to arrive in Romania in the third quarter of 2024 was the plane, used by 75.7% of the total number of tourists, while 17.4% used their own cars, 4.8% coaches and buses, 1.6% other means of transport (rental cars, motorcycles, etc.), 0.3% river boats and 0.2% the train.
