The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bogdan Aurescu, will participate, on Monday, in the meeting of the heads of diplomacy from the EU member states – the Foreign Affairs Council (FAC), which will take place in Luxembourg, the MAE informed, in a statement sent to Agerpres.

Minister Bogdan Aurescu will welcome the adoption of the eighth package of restrictive measures against Russia and the increase of military support for Ukraine through the adoption of the sixth tranche of the financial contribution through the European Peace Facility and the completion of the steps regarding the creation of a military assistance mission of the EU (EUMAM) for the training of the Ukrainian army.

Aurescu will also reiterate the continuation of Romania’s multidimensional support for Kyiv and inform about the facilitation of exports of grain and other products from Ukraine through our country.

„The Romanian official will emphasize the need to maintain the unity of the European Union in relation to China, especially on a multilateral level, on strengthening European economic resilience and on strengthening the relationship with the states of Africa, Latin America and Asia-Pacific. In this sense, he will emphasize the importance of the implementation of the European strategy for the Indo-Pacific and the EU Global Gateway initiative,” MAE mentioned.

The European ministers will also address the recent developments in Iran, marked by the protests generated by the killing of young Mahsa Amini, violently repressed by the authorities in Tehran. Minister Bogdan Aurescu will condemn serious violations of human rights, including freedom of expression, assembly and peaceful demonstration, and will express support for a firm EU response in coordination with like-minded states and, in particular, with the USA, MAE added.

According to the ministry, climate change will be discussed in the context of the European Council from October 20-21 and the UN Conference on Climate Change/COP 27 (November 6-18, Sharm el-Sheikh/Egypt). The Romanian official will express Romania’s support for the EU’s joint efforts to achieve ambitious results at the meeting in Egypt and will highlight the importance of engaging third countries in this process.
