On an official visit to Jordan, Romania’s Foreign Minister Luminita Odobescu on Thursday went to the Al Hussein Co-Educational Girls School, managed by UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency).

According to the Romanian Foreign Ministry (MAE), during talks with UNRWA Jordan Director Olaf Becker on Friday, Odobescu said that Romania has traditionally supported the agency, given the importance of its mandate for the Middle East. She also underlined the importance of fully implementing the recommendations of the Colonna Report in order to reassure the international donor community to the benefit of the organisation.

The Romanian dignitary presented Romania’s constant humanitarian efforts to the benefit of Palestinian civilians affected by the recurrent crises in the region, namely the instalments of humanitarian aid sent by Romania to the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the crisis, as well as the taking over for treatment in Romania of eight paediatric patients from the enclave. Next, Odobescu announced a humanitarian contribution from Romania, intended for UNRWA operations in Jordan, assuring that Romania’s humanitarian efforts to the benefit of Palestinian refugees will continue in the future.

The Romanian minister also had a meeting with members of the Romanian community in Jordan, members of Romanian cultural associations, as well as of the associations of students having graduated from universities in Romania, whom he thanked for the valuable contribution to the development of the Romania-Jordan relationship. She assured them of the firm support, customised to meet specific needs, from the Romanian government, including through the Romanian Embassy in Jordan.
