The Romanian authorities intend to take children from Gaza, who are currently undergoing medical treatment in Egypt, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Luminita Odobescu, declared for AGERPRES on Thursday.
She participated, in Brussels, at the informal Foreign Affairs Council, which brought together the heads of diplomacy from the European Union. The conflict in the Middle East was also on the agenda.
„Everyone is aware that we need to continue helping the civilians in the Gaza Strip who are in a dramatic humanitarian situation. Romania’s efforts are constant in this direction. We have sent several humanitarian aids, including to the Jordanian hospital. Our intention is as in next period let’s take over children from Gaza. We are working in this direction”, said the head of Romanian diplomacy, according to which the minors are being treated in Egypt, and the process of taking them over is ongoing.
Odobescu pointed out that the security situation is „extremely volatile” and there is a risk of escalation in the region.
„Romania supports the current steps, the consistent efforts of the United States of America, together with Qatar and Egypt, to obtain a permanent ceasefire, to release the hostages and to allow unrestricted humanitarian access for civilians in Gaza. (…) What what is important is this coordination of the efforts of the European Union together with those of the USA, in order to reach an agreement in the parameters presented by the American side,” she said.
