Four months into 2024 Romania imports meat, processed meat worth EUR 599 million

In the first four months of 2024, Romania exported live animals in the amount of 195.8 million euros and meat and processed meat of 205.3 million euros and imported live animals in the amount of 83.1 million euros, respectively meat and processed meat meat of 599 million euros, according to data centralized by the National Institute of Statistics.

Exports of live animals increased by 0.9% compared to the same period in 2023, and imports by 29.4%, while exports of meat and processed meat increased by 15.2%, and imports by 20, 2%

During the mentioned period, Romania exported live animals to the European Union in the amount of 61.4 million euros, the main destination countries being Hungary (23.2 million euros), Greece (13.7 million euros) and Croatia (12.1 million euro).

Imports of live animals totaled 83.1 million euros, most of them coming from Hungary (35.4 million euros), Germany (13.4 million euros) and the Netherlands (9.4 million euros).

Between January and April 2024, exports of meat and edible organs in EU countries amounted to 93.2 million euros, and imports to 500.1 million euros. The largest exports were to Bulgaria (17.7 million euros), France (15.6 million euros), Italy (14.1 million euros) and Hungary (13.1 million euros), while the largest imports came from Spain (135.2 million euros), Germany (87.1 million euros), Hungary (85.2 million euros) and Poland (50.5 million euros).
