The General Aviation Inspectorate with the Ministry of Home Affairs is carrying out a complex mission in support of the citizens of Galati County affected by severe flooding.
„A Black Hawk helicopter is flying four utility poles, each 12 metres long. The heaviest of these weighs over a quarter of a tonne, which makes the operation extremely difficult and important for the restoration of critical infrastructure,” the ministry reported on Monday.
The decision to fly the poles is said to be the only viable solution for the restoration of the critical infrastructure given difficult access to the flooded areas.
The poles are flown over a distance of about 10 kilometres, and the operation is essential to the restoring of the electricity grid and the energy supply.
This is the first mission in which a Black Hawk helicopter of the General Aviation Inspectorate is used to transport essential infrastructure components.
All necessary efforts are being deployed to support the affected communities and restore utilities as soon as possible, according to the ministry.
