The dually managed Giurgiu-Ruse bridge will be closed on the Bulgarian side for rehabilitation, for two months, starting on July 9, which creates a great inconvenience to the freight and tourist traffic between Romania and Bulgaria, on Wednesday said the managing director of the National Road Infrastructure Administration Company (CNAIR), Cristian Pistol, in a press conference.
„We had several discussions with the Bulgarian partners. They consider it necessary to start the total closure of the area managed by them starting from July 9. There are other alternative routes, including the ferry, the other bridge from Calafat-Vidin – and we also have connections from Calarasi, also with the ferry. The bridge will be completely closed, it will not be used for two months, as the Bulgarian side announced, but we will see how long these works will last,” Pistol stressed.
„My colleagues tried to have this discussion with their Bulgarian counterparts. Unfortunately, as Mr. Pistol said, they did not accept the delay of the works and did not accept anything else,” the minister of Transport, Sorin Grindeanu, added.
Cristian Pistol said that on the Romanian side the bridge was rehabilitated, but on this occasion a series of maintenance works will be done here as well, yet „our work does not require traffic to stop”, the head of CNAIR said.
