Gorj County Council President, talks with Japanese Ambassador on cooperation in renewable energy, investment prospects

Published on

The President of the Gorj County Council (CJ), Cosmin Popescu, held discussions on Tuesday on several topics, including cooperation in the field of renewable energy and investment prospects, with the Ambassador of Japan to Romania, Takashi Katae, who was on a visit to the area.

The meeting was part of the ongoing diplomatic dialogue between county institutions and the diplomatic missions accredited in Bucharest, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and identifying common development directions, Cosmin Popescu wrote on Facebook.

According to him, discussions were held on cooperation in the field of renewable energy, during which Ambassador Takashi Katae presented the opportunities Japan can offer in terms of advanced technologies for producing and storing renewable energy, a strategic area of interest for Gorj County in the context of the energy transition. Openness towards Japanese technological transfer and expertise represents an important support for modernising the regional energy infrastructure, the source noted.

„During the discussions held at the institution’s headquarters, the Ambassador of Japan expressed his willingness to promote possible investments by Japanese companies in Gorj County, in line with the county’s industrial potential, specialised human resources, and emerging economic opportunities in the region. This openness provides a solid basis for future collaborations in high value-added sectors. Another key point of the meeting was the year 2026, which will mark 150 years since the birth of the great sculptor Constantin Brancusi. I informed His Excellency that, together with the Targu Jiu Municipality and Pestisani Commune, we will carry out an extensive programme of events dedicated to Brancusi’s legacy. I also emphasised that Brancusi’s work has the capacity to generate both cultural connections and economic opportunities, representing an identity symbol with universal significance. Ambassador Katae congratulated the local authorities for including the ‘Calea Eroilor’ ((Heroes’ Way) Ensemble in the UNESCO World Heritage List, praising the exceptional cultural value it brings to Gorj County,” the President of the Gorj County Council wrote in his post.

At the same time, the Japanese ambassador to Romania expressed his intention to become actively involved in promoting Gorj County both among Japanese tourists and within the Japanese business environment. AGERPRES
