Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu says that the government will invest over RON 1.2 billion in upgrading public passenger transport.

Twenty-three new electric locomotives will be purchased, capable of running at 160 kilometres per hour and towing up to 16 passenger cars, Ciolacu said at the beginning of a government meeting on Thursday.

„We are also investing in nine other long-distance inter-regional electric trains. At the same time, we are also modernising the railway infrastructure, on the Ploiesti-Focsani railway route, a major work, of over 143 kilometres,” said Marcel Ciolacu.

According to the agenda of the meeting, the government is to approve the technical and economic indicators of the investment objective „Rehabilitation of the Ploiesti Triaj – Focsani railway line”, a work of public utility of national interest. The length of the railway route that will be rehabilitated is 143 kilometres, and the total value of the investment is put at RON 10.961 million.
