Gov’t to grant state aid worth nearly 100 million euro to Nokian Tyres plant in Oradea

Published on

The government will approve on Thursday state aid worth nearly 100 million euro for the Nokian Tyres plant in Oradea, announced Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu.

The tire plant, representing a 625 million euro investment, will create 550 jobs, the prime minister mentioned at the start of the government meeting.

„The most important project today is the support, through a state aid of nearly 100 million euros, for the plant built by Nokian Tyres in Oradea. I visited the plant with my colleagues and saw a state-of-the-art tire plant with cutting-edge technology, an investment of over 625 million euros, which will create 550 jobs. It is a successful model in which the government supports a major private investment, which generates a multiplier effect in the economy at the regional and local level. This is a major step in the country’s reindustrialisation programme, and we want to replicate the Oradea example in all counties of Romania,” said Marcel Ciolacu.

According to the agenda of the government meeting, the Executive will approve, through a government decision, the granting of regional ad-hoc state aid to the company Nokian Tyres Europe Operations SRL.

„The regional ad-hoc state aid will be granted in the form of a grant worth approximately 495,239,202 lei. The regional ad-hoc state aid was notified to the European Commission on February 21, 2024. Based on the notification sent by the Ministry of Finance, the European Commission issued the authorisation decision for the regional ad-hoc state aid C (2024) 5876 final on August 13, 2024,” the explanatory note reads.
