The Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights ruled on Monday in favour of judge Cristi Danilet in the case Danilet v. Romania (application no. 16915/21) and decided that the Romanian authorities had breached Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which guarantees freedom of expression, including the right to hold opinions and to receive and impart information and ideas without interference by public authorities.
The case concerned a disciplinary sanction imposed on judge Cristi Danilet by the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) after he posted two messages on his Facebook account.
The public hearing took place at the ECHR headquarters in Strasbourg and was broadcast live on the Court’s YouTube channel.
The judgment delivered by the Grand Chamber of the ECHR is final and binding. AGERPRES
