Health Min announces list of driver-imparing medications is ready, about to be released

Published on

Health Minister Alexandru Rafila said on Wednesday that the list of medications that impair the driving ability is ready and about to be publicly released, but mentioned that it does not include substances that can cause false positive tests.

„It’s an extensive list of substances for which it is recommended to not be used before driving or, if used, to be used only with a doctor’s indication and after a discussion about the person’s absolute need to drive. There are substances that, taken in a small amount, don’t affect the driving skills, they are present on the list. It is a list that was put together by the expert psychiatry and neurology commissions, and subsequently all the medication products that contain these substances have been identified by the National Medicines Agency and now the list is completed,” said the Health minister.

He mentioned that it’s not the Health Ministry, but the Police that does the testing, „We accurately inform the public about the substances that can influence the driving skills and the same thing is written in the medicine leaflet. Now, this is a synthesis of this category of substances and, of course, both we and our colleagues from the Ministry of the Interior will correctly inform the public,” said Rafila.
