The Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete, announced that the first version of the health insurance system’s IT platform will be available at the end of this year, and it will be fully functional and integrated in August 2026.

„To begin with, we will go into a transition period, so that services on the platform will be accessed both through the existing health card, whose validity period has been extended, even if it says they are expired. We are talking about the new electronic identity card and we are also trying to find a more digital version, if possible,” said the minister.

Asked about the postponement of the integration of health cards into the new electronic identity cards, Rogobete said: „Unfortunately, there is still a fairly high percentage of people in Romania who believe that, with the new electronic health insurance card, they will be microchipped. In other words, there is still an important group of people, whom we cannot ignore and certainly we must come to their support, who believe that medicine is done with water, energy and nanobots. Or, of course, until we overcome these elements of confusion, we, administratively, must offer access to everyone in the system, regardless of the form of access.”AGERPRES
