HealthMin: Services provided by oncological screening caravans, available to all women, insured or not

Published on

The services provided by the oncological screening caravans are available to all women, regardless of whether or not they are insured and irrespective of their place of residence, Health Minister Alexandru Rogobete said on Wednesday.

‘A medical system with the person at the centre of all decisions and health policies. This is the starting point for the investment in expanding the network of mobile medical units for cervical cancer screening. This service is intended for all women, whether or not they are insured, regardless of where they live,’ the minister wrote on Facebook.

According to him, these measures aim to reduce the burden of cervical cancer among women by detecting the disease at an early stage through organised screening, guide patients with precancerous or early lesions towards specialised diagnostic and treatment services, and increase public awareness of screening services as a method of early detection of cervical cancer in asymptomatic individuals.

Alexandru Rogobete said that the oncological screening caravans provide the following services: informing and counselling women on cervical cancer prevention measures and encouraging eligible individuals to undergo the Babes-Papanicolaou test, collecting biological samples, staining, reading and interpreting Babes-Papanicolaou test results, and guiding women diagnosed with precancerous or early lesions towards specialist services for further investigations and the establishment of a treatment plan.

‘By expanding these services, we are increasing the capacity of the medical system to offer access to screening and prevention for all Romanians, as close as possible to where they live,’ the minister of Health emphasised. AGERPRES
