Health Minister Alexandru Rogobete said on Wednesday that doctors should be listened to more and that counseling support would be important for them when burnout problems or moments of pressure arise.
„We all need to understand that doctors are also people, and they get tired and sometimes have problems. And other problems than those in the health unit. And yes, psychological support for medical personnel, counseling support when moments of burnout or moments of pressure from different forms or areas occur, I think it is important and I think that doctors should be listened to more,” the minister replied when asked about the case in Buzau.
Stefania Szabo, the medical director of the County Emergency Hospital, was found dead on Tuesday morning in the emergency room of the medical unit.
The minister said that in Buzau the average number of on-call shifts was three per month.
„In Buzau, the average number of shifts that had to be done was three shifts per person per month, because there were nine surgeons in that department, plus a shift contract from an external area. So, on average, they could do three shifts per month. Why the doctor wanted to do seven or others didn’t want to do shifts and she had to supplement them, I don’t know at the moment and I can’t comment,” said the dignitary.
The Minister of Health participated on Wednesday at the Health Innovation Forum with the theme „Pharmaceutical innovation: engine of competitiveness – Romania in dialogue with Europe for better access of Romanian patients to innovative therapies,” organized by the Romanian Association of International Drug Manufacturers.AGERPRES
