Justice minister Alina Gorghiu said that there will be a hearing on Monday at the Court of Justice of the European Union in the preliminary ruling procedure referred by the Romanian court in Prince Paul of Romania’s case.
„Today there will be a hearing at the Court of Justice of the European Union in the preliminary ruling referred by the Romanian court in Prince Paul’s case. It is about the referral made by the Brasov Court of Appeal, which concerns issues of compliance with EU legislation on the European arrest warrant in the case of Prince Paul’s surrender,” the minister said.
According to the minister, the case is „particularly important” for the Romanian state, and the request to debate it under urgent procedure has been admitted.
Alina Gorghiu said that the written phase has been finalized, all the parties involved have submitted materials on their points of view, and on Monday there will be the hearing phase.
The Justice minister emphasized that the opinion of the European Commission was in agreement with that of the Romanian state.
Alina Gorghiu thanked her colleagues from the Ministry of Justice, the enforcement court, the Romanian Police and all the authorities involved.
On June 10, Justice Minister Alina Gorghiu announced that a court in Malta had admitted the appeal of the public prosecutor’s office and overturned the first decision of the judges refusing the surrender of the fugitive Paul-Philippe of Romania, and that the case would be retried.
