Students from two high schools in the municipality of Tulcea, Dobrogean College Spiru Haret and Theoretical High School Grigore Moisil, met, on Wednesday, with American soldiers and civilians from the 1st Civil-Military Co-operation Battalion of the United States Armed Forces and representatives of the Romanian Army, write Agerpres.
The meeting hosted by the Panait Cerna County Library began with the presentation of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the United States of America, the Romanian and American military oaths and the presentation of their activities.
„The Mihail Kogalniceanu base is currently hosting almost 3,000 American soldiers and, in my opinion, I don’t know if in Romania, especially the students, they understand what the American soldiers are doing in Romania. This is an opportunity to explain what we are doing here, how we work with our Romanian allies and to understand the conflict in Ukraine, what is happening in the region and how important our alliance is,” Drew Beck, the advisor for relations with the Romanian civil authorities within the US Army in Europe, told AGERPRES.
He appreciated the presence of high school students from Tulcea.
„It was a very active group and interested in discussions. A month ago, I went to Galati and did a similar event and they were the same. I think there is a great interest in what concerns America and the American military,” Drew Beck also said.
During the meeting, the high school students were interested in the most important cultural shock that the American soldiers had when they arrived in Romania, how the opportunities of the soldiers changed after they enlisted in the Army, but also the equipment and the food packages they receive during the missions.
At the end of the meeting, the management of the „Panait Cerna” County Library offered diplomas to the representatives of the two high schools as a sign of appreciation for participating in the event, as well as to the delegates of the US Army and the Romanian Army for organizing the meeting.
